The maiden flight of the first Boeing 777 passenger jet to Canada will take place this Saturday, Air Canada said Tuesday.

The wide-body jet will landin Montreal. By the end of the year, Air Canada will haveeight 777s in service. Air Canada has placed firm orders for 18 of the planes.

The Toronto to London (Heathrow) route will be the first assignment for the 777. Other routes throughout Europe, Asia and Australia will follow later.
