I was invited to my hairdresser’s salon for hotpot dinner with her staff last saturday. The food was yummy, but I find the games we played afterwards even more interesting. We had 14 people altogether and we played Chinese dice game that night.

One person acts as the banker and is responsible for rolling the dices inside the bowl with the lid on. Once the dices has been rolled, while the lid is still covering the bowl, players are allowed to bet any amount of money onto any of the squares.

After everyone has made their bets, the banker will say '買定離手 (Keep your hands away after making bet)'. The banker opens the lid and reveals the dices within. The player wins if any of the dices correspond to the square which they bet on. The banker pays at a rate corresponding the number of correct dices matching the squares. That is, 1:1 for 1 dice, 1:2 for 2 dices, and 1:3 for 3 dices.

Play:
A player gets five rolls of the dice to score as many crab points as possible. Crab points are accumilated by rolling a 3, 4, crab, 2 and 5 in that order out of 5 rolls setting aside each one aquired. At the end of the hand, if all 5 are completed, the player gets two crab points. In an instance where all 5 are rolled on the first roll, the player obtains 5 points.
